Our experience

We’ve been operating for 14 years now, and our business has grown largely on referrals. Our clients certainly like what we do. How do we know this? Because we ask them. Feedback is vital for healthy growth of any business and even if we don’t always like what we hear, that’s how we keep improving.

Our destinations

Getaway Trekking now operates in 7 countries: Australia (The Kimberley), Papua New Guinea, Borneo, Nepal, Vietnam, Thailand and East Timor.  So, whatever your fancy, we’ve got something to rock your boat.

Our activities

Did we say rock your boat? In addition to trekking, we offer paddling, cycling, mountain biking, snorkelling and scuba diving, fishing and surfing.

Our attention to safety

Is second to none. We’ve got a very low evacuation record and we’ve never had a client die during an adventure. Injuries can – to be honest – just bad luck sometimes. It’s pretty easy to roll an ankle. But most risks can be managed , for example with attention to fitness and conditioning, understanding the importance of hydration and the risks of hyponatremia.

You’ll feel secure with our attention to safety in the outdoors. We have documented track and river crossing protocols and ensure these are always followed. Our Head Office provides 24 hour back up support in the event of unforeseen issues.

Our crew

Just a great bunch, really. Our Australian leaders are – without exception – clients who have seen first hand the differences in how we go about our work on the track, and want to be part of what we do.

Our national crew are no less amazing. A humble and loving bunch of people who just love to showcase their countries, you will enjoy the enhancements they bring to your adventures. Unburdened by materialism, and the collection of  ‘stuff’ , these guys haven’t yet learned to revere the plasma god over playing with their kids. We learn from them every single day.

Our food

Who’s been on a trip where everything was great except the food? We have! All of us have a really healthy appetite, so we make sure there’s plenty of nutritious food going. Apart from the importance of replenishing lost energy stores, how nice is it go have good food at the end of a day where you’re been working hard?

We buy our food locally because we like to contribute to local economies. We don’t do food drops – we prefer to employ extra porters than pay a transport company. And we replenish what we carry in with fresh fruit and vegetables from local villages as often as we can.

Our approach to social responsibility

Working in developing nations is a privilege that carries a social responsibility. We live in the best country in the world with good quality education, health care and social infrastructure. Our national friends unfortunately do not always share our good fortune.

Handouts are not the answer, but supporting those who want to support themselves isn’t hard. Over the years we’ve lent a hand with projects as varied as helping set up an orphanage, provide school fees for kids who would otherwise be denied an education and providing pumps for wells in remote villages.

Our packages – all inclusive

We’re not interested in playing games with our pricing. Our packages are all inclusive, with the exception of lunches on the first and last days. What you see is what you get. No hidden extras, like having to pay for pre or post trek accommodation, transfers to and from the start of your adventure, and even food while you’re out. It’s all there.

All up? We provide a very personalised service. From the time you make the decision on which adventure you want to experience, we’re there for you. From training, to advice on equipment, and whether you should employ a personal carrier. From assisting you with hiring gear, to passing on discounts we’ve achieved with our corporate partners.

And when you’re there, the personalised attention to detail continues. You’ll love the interaction with our crew, and the local people you’ll meet on your adventure. We’ve even had instances of children being named after our clients (and us!) You’ll feel secure with our attention to safety. And you’ll feel full with everything we feed you!
