Jo_-_pumpkinThere were some tired but happy feet arriving at Kokoda village last night. After 8 nights and 9 days on the Kokoda Track, our group has finished, and finished well.

There's quite a mixture of emotions arriving at Kokoda, trekking the last two hours along one of the only flat sections of the track between Hoi and Kokoda. There's relief, and there's pride. There's excitement and achievement. And there's also sadness. Because this journey is not just about the time on Kokoda. The journey is so much more than that.

Jo (left) decided to carry her own pack. Pretty gutsy really, because there's not a lot of Jo as you can see. Jo trained hard carrying weight in her pack - anything she could find including household vegetables! It's pretty easy to see why Jo's nickname is 'pumpkin'.

Michelle and Sharon battled sore knees and medical issues. But complain? Forget it. They were a team, they trekked as a team, and they finished as a team.

So today, it's off to Sanananda, and tomorrow Buna, both on the northern beaches. Aside from the beauty of these villages, and the welcome they will receive, they will continue to honour the memory of those who fought and died during the PNG Campaign. The Allies engaged in some ferocious fighting at Buna, Gona and Sanananda, and more than twice as many Australian lives were lost there as on the Kokoda Track.

Congratulations guys, and enjoy your R&R - you've earned it!
