Day 1 Darwin – Dili – Baucau
Group members will meet at 4 am at Darwin airport. Your luggage will be checked in as normal. Your flight to Dili will leave at 6.30am.

You will be collected by our Timorese & Australian Leaders and transported into Dili outskirts. Our local guide will deliver your baggage for safe storage, while we spend the morning exploring Dili. We will visit the Arte Morris Galleria, a local artist’s gallery. If possible, we will travel up to the Dare Australian War Memorial, 20 minutes out of town, where, in addition to the emotion of visiting the memorial, we will enjoy superb views of Dili and the harbour to the north, before boarding our vehicle for the drive along the scenic north coast road to Baucau.

We will stop at Manatuto for lunch. On arrival in Baucau, time permitting, we will take a drive to the beach, to enjoy the beautiful warm waters of the Wetar Strait. DINNER AND OVERNIGHT BACAU.

Day 2 Baucau – Baguia (B/L/D)
Another early start for the 65 kilometre drive & trek east to the town of Baguia. The drive along the coast highway is easy, with magnificent views, however as the day progresses, the ascent over the dividing range becomes more challenging. We will purchase some lunch at Laga, where it is also possible to get local wine and spirits. DINNER AND OVERNIGHT AT BAGUIA.

Day 3 Baguia – Uaibora (B/L/D)
We will drive & trek south west to the hamlet of Osso Huno. We will enjoy the “dalan kuda” or horse trail to Uaibora on horseback, amongst the first visitors to visit this tiny hamlet. Dinner will be prepared and served by villagers. Our accommodation tonight is quite basic, but you will be entranced by the welcome of your hosts. DINNER AND OVERNIGHT AT UAIBORA

Day 4 Uaibora – Mt Matebean Mane – Osso Huno (B/L/D)
Uaibora is the highest village in this region at 1210 metres ASL, and is tucked in against the massive east face of Matebean Mane. We will start early for the 6 kilometre trek up this magnificent mountain. At 2,377 metres high, this climb will take you higher than Mt Kosciusko or Mt Bellamy on the Kokoda Track. On a clear day, you will enjoy views from the summit to both the north and south coast’s before returning. DINNER AND OVERNIGHT AT OSSO HUNO (DEPENDING ON CONDITIONS).

Day 5 Osso Huno – Baucau (B/L/D)
We get back in our vehicle for the continuation of our journey circling the Matebean Range. We will travel to the ancient isolated village of Buibela before continuing northwest to Quelicai. About this point, we start to enjoy the elevation gains we have made over the last 2 days drive & trekking , as we enjoy our journey back down the range. From here the road heads north back to the coast highway leading to Baucau. OVERNIGHT AND DINNER AND BACAU

Day 6 Baucau – Dili (B/L/)
This morning we board our transport and return to Dili. The remainder of your time in Dili is at your own leisure, before our final celebratory drinks and dinner at one of Dili’s fantastic venues. DINNER AND OVERNIGHT: DILI.

Day 7 Dili – Atauro Island – Dili (B/L/D)
A relaxing finale to this beautiful country, we will take a 3 hour ferry trip to the mountainous and tropical island of Atauro, north of Dili in the Wetar strait. We will lunch and enjoy the market here before returning to Dili in the afternoon. Final group dinner in one of Dili’s fabulous bars. DINNER AND OVERNIGHT DILI.

Day 8 Dili To Darwin
Transfer to Dili airport for the early morning flight to Darwin.

  • As tourism infrastructure is not advanced, this itinerary is a guide only and may need to be amended
  • This trek is intended to be a circuit around the Matebean Mane range. Depending on road conditions, the trek may be amended to an ‘out and back’ itinerary
  • One of the newest nations on earth, Timor Leste has all the magic of South East Asia. There are many similarities here between the countryside and people of Bali and the Papuans from New Guinea.

The Fine Print

A non-refundable deposit of $500 is required to secure a booking. The remaining monies are payable 60 days prior to departure.

A medical certificate is required from your doctor no more than 30 days from departure, stating that you have no medical condition that could endanger your life on this trek.

Travel Insurance is mandatory.

Training is necessary. This trek is challenging and you will require a high level of fitness. We can offer you support in this area. Please contact us for details.
