Vietnam is a traditional, yet vibrant country rich in civilisation. With 3,450 kms of coastline, lush jungle covered mountains, beautiful beaches and tropical islands; Vietnam offers an abundance of opportunity for the Getaway traveller.

Vietnam stretches more than 1600km along the eastern coast of Indochina. Latitude 8 deg. N to 23 deg N. The official language is Vietnamese, although there are many dialects spoken amongst the dozens of ethnic minority groups. It has a  population of 83 million making it the 13th most populous country in the world.

Getaway Trekking staff love Vietnam and its people and have spent a lot of time there. One of our most moving experiences was visiting the Long Tan Battlefield in the company of Alan May and Doug Fabian of D Company, 6RAR, who were involved in the Battle of Long Tan. 6RAR was awarded the United States Presidential Unit citation for extraordinary heroism in military operations.

For Alan and Doug, this was their first return to this country, and we were privileged to share in their emotion and knowledge of the battle, and their experiences during this conflict.
