60th Anniversary first summit of Mount Everest – May 2013
At 11.30am on 29 May 1953, Sir Edmund Hillary and his Nepalese Sherpa, Tenzing Norgay were the first people to summit Mount Everest. The highest mountain in the world at 8,850m, the climb took 7 weeks.
Join us on this special anniversary to commemorate their achievements. Trek in the magnificence of the Himalaya and enjoy the gentle beauty of the Nepali culture and its people.
Cairns Corporate Challenge – Kokoda Trek August 2013
Declan Crouch was 13 years old when he disappeared on 9th March 2011. After an extensive and very public three month search, his body was found not far from his Machans Beach home. Declan’s mother, Ruth, is an incredibly courageous woman who has chosen to channel her energies into supporting others through suicide prevention initiatives for far north Queenslanders.
In August a group of 31 trekkers from the Cairns community will take on the challenge of the Kokoda Track. Not only will they undertake the physical challenge, but have also committed to raise funds and awareness for this very worthy cause.
Our target is $50,000, so get behind the group. Information can be found on the Cairns Corporate Challenge website, and donations can be made on the Gofundraise website

70th Anniversary of Kokoda Campaign - 2012
Getaway Trekking & Adventures is honoured and proud to be working with the 39th Australian Infantry Battalion Association to honour their diggers, who fought so magnificently during the Kokoda Campaign.
On 11 November our last group for the year completed their trek, walking in support of the fallen. They began with a Remembrance Day service at Bomana Cemetery – a very emotional experience.
Lest we forget.
