Colin Engellenner

Thank you for the welcome back email.

The trek itself was the most difficult and most satisfying achievement I personally have faced in my life. Apart from the injury I suffered to my left knee, three days into the trek, the emotional barriers I faced were something I wasn’t prepared for, but again I am so proud of my achievement and I haven’t stopped talking about it since I came home. My father fought the Japs in both Papua New Guinea and Malaya, and the emotions for me were very strong and at times (many times) I could not hide my feelings. I feel so very proud to be an Aussie and the son of an Aussie Digger.

I cannot speak highly enough about the leadership from both Julie (what a woman) and Kevin. Their knowledge of the Kokoda History was so fascinating and educational, that I felt so privileged to be in their company. Any problems which occurred on the trip were also dealt with very efficiently. I had my moments at times during the trek, both emotionally and physically, but the warmth and sincerity shown by Julie was very comforting, and I am very grateful to her.

Thanking you again for the experience and proving to myself that, even at 63 years of age, I still have the desire to achieve the improbable.

Regards,

Colin Engellenner
