Hi guys
Well, yes, I’m back from the mountains and it was …by far…the most unique and rewarding challenge I’ve ever undertaken. Did either of you receive word that I was the ONLY person on the trek? Yes, this actualy was the case! And I didn’t find out until I got to Kathmandu! The UK couple who were supposed to be part of the trek had VISA troubles in Hong Kong and were stuck there for a good week. So there I was with my own personal porter and guide… Not another soul! Definitely had to learn some Nepali…
I won’t burden you with the whole story, so here’s a brief summary.
Pros–> Incredible views when the clouds shifted, lots of gorgeous waterfalls (monsoon season), very few trekkers so lodges were always quiet, learning Nepali, incredible sense of achievement upon reaching Base Camp Cons–> Getting bad AMS at Phakding which got progressively worse all the way up to Base Camp (lost 7 kg!), all the RAIN RAIN RAIN, damn cloud clover, not seeing Everest due to cloud
All in all, I am MORE than happy with how it all went. I keep feeling more stoked about the achievement. Even with the rain, the photos I got have astounded every person that I’ve shown.
Also thanks to both of you for your quick responses and professionalism in organising this trip for me. Such a boon to have people who genuinely care about your experience. Looking forward to doing some business with you again ASAP. The trekking bug has bitten me… despite the brush with AMS. My feet are already itching to go somewhere else!!!
Thanks so much again!
