STEPHEN MATTHEWS – KOKODA MARCH 2010

Dear Getaway Team,

On behalf of my son Michael(slash) and myself I would like to pass on our deepest gratitude for what was a great life experience completing the Kokoda Track Tour.

From the very beginning of planning the trip with equipment purchase and training, Getaways advise was complete and served us well in being able to enjoy every moment of this unique trip. Once in PNG and commencing the tour your experience and local knowledge was even more apparent.

The respect shown to all people, both local and trekkers allowed for the group to totally unify as one with many strong relationships built with all parties. We were taught many local traditions and learnt much of the heartache of war which many times proved to be very emotional.

Whilst for me the journey started as one to understand a piece of Australian history, it soon became more about the local people who live in this most beautiful country with a lifestyle which has not changed greatly over many years.

The manner in which Getaway Trekking were received by the local people made me very proud to be Australian and that I had chosen this group for my life experience.
This relationship allowed us to get so much more out of the trip than just the tour itself.

The other great part of Getaways approach was to ensure the family at home were able to follow our daily progress which was a great load of our minds both on the Track and at home.

I hope to complete other similar types of tours in the future and will definitely go through Getaway Trekking again. I would highly recommend them to any and all persons wanting to complete their own life experience treks.
