Wayne FitcherWayne joined Getaway Trekking in 2006 after enjoying a very wet Kokoda Track for an Anzac Day finish at the Isurava battlefield memorial celebration earlier that year. The
experience was truly memorable and on returning to Australia, he decided to follow his passion and set about extracting himself from the family business.

Being a keen trekker for more than 30 years over much of the high country in Australia, Wayne certainly has vast experience on the track. The Alpine Walking Track, Federation Peak in Tasmania and trekking the Annapurna Sanctuary in Nepal are some of his more notable treks. When Mt Meharry in WA is climbed next year, he will have climbed the highest peak in every state and territory of Australia.

A keen snow & water skier, Wayne is an acknowledged teacher of adults and children in these disciplines. His patience and communication skills help both experienced trekkers and those who are relative novices. Wayne has spent many years volunteering his skills to assist young people develop their potential, including coaching junior sporting teams, and many years running water skiing camps for underprivileged children.

Wayne runs Getaway Trekking’s renowned Gold Card training program. He is a passionate believer in the importance of trek preparation before tackling the strenuous nature of remote trekking. He is an avid traveller both in Australia and overseas.
