Basil Tindeba – Kokoda Track Trek Master
Basil Tindeba is village chief of Buna, on the northern beaches of Papua New Guinea. Basil is an absolute veteran of the Kokoda Track, having led more than 300 treks.
In addition to his role as our most senior Trek Master, Basil oversees the facilitation of our Kokoda treks, and the management of our national trekking staff. He is justly proud of the employment opportunities he has helped create for the young men and women of his village of Buna. Many of our carriers introduced and nurtured by Basil have now moved into senior trekking leadership roles in their own right.
Through our long term relationship with Basil, we have introduced many clients to the history and beauty of the northern beaches. Though many Australians are now familiar with the Kokoda Campaign, few are aware of the level of fighting that took place at Buna, Gona and Sanananda where we lost more than twice as many diggers.
Many of our groups enjoy a few days of R&R at Basil Tindeba’s Mana Mana Guest House pre or post their trek. Why don’t you??…….
