Treks for women – designed by women!
Getaway Trekking is the only Australian based trekking company with a female principal leading groups on the Kokoda Track. So we know what women want. We know what sort of support women need.
Many of our female clients have told us they love the thought of getting out there and amongst it. It’s not always easy though, to find other girls of the same mindset.
We’ve taken women of all age groups, some single, some married with children, some groups, some individuals. What they share is the dream and desire to keep active and step outside their comfort zone.
Many of our women trekkers have done so supporting a favourite charity. We’ve supported ovarian cancer, leukaemia, prostate cancer and a variety of other worthwhile causes.
Getaway Trekking has run several all women’s groups, and in the main, these women have chosen to support various causes to enhance their experience, and to contribute to others less fortunate. We have supported contributions to ovarian cancer, domestic violence, bionic ear research, and others.
In 2010, Getaway Trekking ran our first trek for PNG national women. The trek was in support of breast cancer awareness in PNG, and between us and our participants, we raised approximately PGK20,000. This was the first of what we intend to be an ongoing annual trek.
In 2011, we scheduled one Women’s Kokoda Trek and that took place in October. This trek included both Australian and PNG women. (Guys, you’re welcome too – we don’t discriminate!) Aside from the obvious benefits of being part of an adventure supporting such a fantastic cause, this was a great cultural experience, as Australian women came together with their Papua New Guinean sisters. Following the success of our prevous women’s treks, this was a winner.
